Robert Mathison was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on June 14,1933, and grew up in Canton on his family's farm. After graduating from high school he enlisted into the service and served for 4 years with an honorable discharge from the US Navy. He attended a couple years of college and went to work at San Diego Gas and Electric Company where he retired in 1989 after 25 years of service. Bob was happily married to his first wife Donna for 42 years, and she passed away in 1996. Bob was also preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel (Ramsted) Mathison; brother-in-law, Orin McConniel; and two nephews. Bob is survived by his wife Diane whom he married on Jan. 22, 2000. Bob also has a stepdaughter named Nicole Justus and husband Mike, and a stepson Jason Bibelheimer. He was also blessed with six beautiful grandchildren who loved him very much. Bob is also survived by his brother Denny and his wife Eileen and his sister Karen and numerous nieces and nephews and lots of great friends.

Bob was the kind of person that most people wish they could be. He was a gentle soul, a kind husband, a caring Brother, a supportive Grandfather, a doting Uncle, and a good friend. He always stood out in a crowd physically with his height, but always attracted those around him with his warm smile. His caring disposition, his value of family and love of friendships lasted a life time. He will always be in our hearts, and will never be forgotten, but he will truly be missed.

Bob's remains will be kept at the Riverside Memorial Cemetery. A service will be planned in Orange County, CA, where he lived for over forty years, in the near future to celebrate his life and to honor him.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rose Mortuary, Desert Hot Springs.
