Viewing for Doris M. Wilder, a resident of Desert Hot Springs, will be held at Rose Mortuary 66424 Pierson Blvd, Desert Hot Springs, CA Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be at Riverside National Cemetery 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 2:01 p.m. She will be interred next to her husband, Chief Warrant Officer Herbert Wilder.
Mrs. Wilder passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at her home in Desert Hot Springs after a lengthy illness. Doris was born January 26, 1923 in Medford, Massachusetts the daughter of Francis and Mildred Gilleland.
When Doris was just five years old her father, Officer Francis Gilleland of the Medford Police Department, was killed in the line of duty. Shortly thereafter, her mother moved the family to live with relatives in Manchester, NH. It was there that Doris met her future husband, Herbert Spencer Wilder.
She was united in marriage to Herb on February 7, 1942 in Manchester, NH. He preceded her in death September 26, 1991. They were married for 49 wonderful years.
Throughout her lifetime, Doris was an active homemaker – dedicated to her family and her husband's military career; traveling throughout the United States and abroad & meeting such dignitaries as former President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Doris was also very active with holiday crafts, creating decorations and art for holiday celebrations; she also enjoyed working with jigsaw puzzles, swimming and loved her time with bible study.
Prior to relocating to Desert Hot Springs in 2006, Doris lived for 38 years in Placentia, California where she was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children and spouses; Barbara Looney, Pflugerville, TX, Joyce (Mike) Armstrong, Desert Hot Springs, CA, Bill Wilder, Desert Hot Springs, CA, Susan (Gary) Blakeley, Wake Forest, NC, nieces Janice Schmal, Lois Dalton, 6 loving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her only sibling, Mildred L. Hawes in March 1990, her mother Mildred G. Gilleland in March 1972 and a great-grandson, Andrew Kapcia in October 2010.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association 69730 California 111, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270.

Funeral services are under the care and direction of Rose Mortuary & Crematory.
