Dennis Rice, age 70, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014. Dennis was born in San Francisco on February 6, 1944 and attended Sacred Heart High School where he played varsity football for three years and was selected first team All-City; Back of the year; All Catholic; All Metropolitan and later inducted in to the Sacred Heart Athletics Hall of Fame.
Dennis, a long time resident of Desert Hot Springs, spent the last 40 years in the Coachella Valley and had an eclectic career including serving his country in the Marine Corps, serving the public as a California Highway Patrol Officer in Indio, co-owner of the original Hair of the Dog Saloon in Palm Springs and taxi driver.
Dennis was preceded in death by his mother Edna Zahn and his sister Kathy Cisneros. He's survived by his beloved wife Helen, his children Lisa (Michael) Brown, Granger, IN; Debbie Rice (Steve Soldano), San Francisco, CA; Eric Rice (Jennifer Dean) New York, NY; stepdaughter Angie (Andy) Brister, Ventura, CA; grandson Elliott Brown, Granger, IN; sisters Margo Tufo (Shelli Vincent), Portland, OR; Nancy Sharp, San Bruno, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dennis had a great sense of humor and loved Harley Davidsons, Johnny Cash, watching Law & Order, telling colorful stories about his life and spending time with family.
