Kermit Lantz Shettel, 61, of Palm Desert, California died April 28, 2013 in Rancho Mirage after suffering a massive heart attack. He was born March 2, 1952 to Randall B. Shettel and Helen M. [Eckels] Sidle in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Kermit was a PGA golf professional, serving at courses in Palm Desert, Calif., Wilmette IL, Long Grove Ill., Carson City Nev., and Waukegan Il.. He served as Head Professional /Golf Operations Manager at Ironwood Country Club, Palm Desert, Calif., during its formative years in the 1970-80's. He was a member of the Professional Golfers Association of America. Kermit mentored many young caddies, caddied for celebrities like Bob Hope during their visit to the Desert, and shared his love of the game of golf throughout his career. Mr. Shettel is survived by many friends and family, including nieces Sherrie Shettel Caudill (Carlisle, Pa.), Tracy Clippinger (Del Mar, Calif.), Lisa Shettel Kyle (Spotsylvania, Va.), Tricia Clippinger Hallman (Carlisle, Pa.) and nephews Greg Clippinger (Carlisle, Pa.), Jay Shettel (Berryville, Va.), Timothy Clippinger (Swanton, Vt.), and Tedd Clippinger (Durham, N.C). Both great nieces and nephews Jake, Jerah, Zachary, Brooke, Joshua, Noah, Kayla, Breanne, Ayden, Tanner, Tyler, Thomas, Coby, Ben, Andrew, Caroline, Eli, Carmen, Benjamin , Rachel, and great-great nieces and nephews Dagan, Wyatt, Cally, Tenley, as well as, their parents will all miss him. Mr. Shettel is also survived by former wife, Kimberley Collins Shettel (Lake Forest, Ill). He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Eckels Sidle and Randall B. Shettel, and his siblings Jay E. Shettel, Nancy K. Clippinger, and Randy B. Shettel. A nephew, Maurice Shettel, preceded him in death. Friends may join a celebration wake at Cactus Jacks, Palm Desert on Saturday, May 4, 2013 beginning at 4:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Rose Mortuary in Palm Desert, Calif. is in charge of arrangements.
