Tribute & Message From The Family

Ellen Marie Cahill-Gomieo (nee Franko), 51, of Twentynine Palms, California, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2013 at home with her husband, daughter, son, grandson, sisters and family pets, after a long battle with cancer and living many years with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Ellen was born on December 7, 1961, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Joseph John Franko and Betty Alice Franko (nee Brown). She graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1980 and continued her education at District One Technical Institute. In 1983, Ellie entered the United States Marine Corps, where she served at Camp Pendleton and Twentynine Palms, California Marine Corps bases for 6 years. While serving at Twentynine Palms, Ellie met the love of her life, Timothy P. Gomieo. Tim and Ellie were married on December 31, 1993 and are the proud parents of Catherine A. Cahill and Nicholas J. Gomieo. Ellie also worked for the Morongo Unified School District for 12 years.
Ellie is survived by her husband Tim, her children, Catherine (Shawn Spruth) and Nicholas, the joy of her life, grandson Cash N. Spruth, family pets Jasper and Sawyer, her mother, Betty A. Franko (Eau Claire), brothers Dennis S. Franko (Ghislaine) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and David M. Franko (Barb) of Fall Creek, Wisconsin, and sister, Beth A. Franko Wegner (Ed) of Pekin, Illinois. She was survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many wonderful friends who she considered her second family. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph, Uncle Reuben C. Brown (aka Uncle Roo-Roo), and her family pets Shelby Sue and Sylvester.
Ellie was a strong, passionate, and inspirational woman to everyone who knew her. Despite the struggles she faced, she was always happy and lived life to the fullest. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was proud to see her children succeed, enjoyed watching soap operas and all her favorite television shows, loved holding her grandson, and always referred to her husband as "her rock."
Tim, Catey, and Nick would like to thank everyone who has shown their love and support to their family through all the years.
We will be having a celebration of life for Ellie at Knotts Sky Park on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 12-4 in Twentynine Palms, California. We will also have a celebration of life in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, which will be announced at a later time.

My mother was the strongest woman I have ever known. Despite her struggles and hard fight with cancer, she was always positive in spirit and loved spending time with her family. Some of my most favorite memories of my mom is her yelling at me to come eat dinner after pitching all night, being the most outspoken woman in any given environment, and her love for her grandson, Cash. I miss my mother every day and it has been very hard to live without her. I know she is free of suffering and is reunited with her father and doggy. I love you momma!

I worked with Ellie for a number of years. She would stop by and talk about her family including her four-legged friends. We shared stories of our families and had a special place in our hearts for our animals. She was a strong woman and just kept going. I admired her strength. I know she will be missed by many. I believe in life on the other side of the experience we call death. Ellie and talked about that too. I am sure she is dancing, pulling pranks and joking just as she did here. See you later Ellie.
Love Jeannette

My mom was the best person I've ever known. She was so full of life and loved her family and friends more than life itself. She fought a long hard battle with cancer for us and I could never ask for anything more than her doing that. I love her and miss her so much. If I can be even half of the mother she was then I know I'll be a good mother because she was the best mother and friend I could have ever asked for.
I love you forever mom. Watch out for our baby Cash. Keep him safe.

I met Ellie back in grade school where I was a new student at a new school. She was very welcoming and we became best friends. We had our good times and got into trouble together, driving our parents crazy. Although Ellie moved away, went into the military, got married, had kids we kept in touch. Sad to say, these past few years we lost touch and I had no idea of her illness til towards the end. I wished I could have been there for you Ellie, to hold your hand and just to be there for my best friend. I'm still sobbing every time I think of the distant friend I lost. I'll always love you and hold you in my heart..Mre Mre...

Ellie was a dedicated and hard worker for MUSD. She was passionate about her work and provided a valuable service to the staff and students of the Morongo Unified School District. Ellie was an inspiration for her co-workers as she continued to come to work and give it her best in spite of the pain that she was in. RIP Ellie - you have earned your eternal resting place in Heaven.

Candle

Ellie was a loving wife, mother, daughter and friend. I will miss hearing "Hi Shirl, what's up?" I have one fun memory I would like to share. In December, she was feeling pretty good and wanted to go Christmas shopping for her family. Off we went and when we returned, the entire back of my car was filled with bags! She was determined that her family was going to have a wonderful Christmas. She also bought presents for the grandson she had yet to meet, and her pets too! She was happy and full of energy that day and that is how I will remember her. Bye Ellie "til we meet again".

Ellie's smile was always so sweet, especially when she used to lay on that good ol' Wisconsin accent. So grateful to have known her.
