Tribute & Message From The Family

Robert Mathison was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on June 14,1933, and grew up in Canton on his family's farm. After graduating from high school he enlisted into the service and served for 4 years with an honorable discharge from the US Navy. He attended a couple years of college and went to work at San Diego Gas and Electric Company where he retired in 1989 after 25 years of service. Bob was happily married to his first wife Donna for 42 years, and she passed away in 1996. Bob was also preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel (Ramsted) Mathison; brother-in-law, Orin McConniel; and two nephews. Bob is survived by his wife Diane whom he married on Jan. 22, 2000. Bob also has a stepdaughter named Nicole Justus and husband Mike, and a stepson Jason Bibelheimer. He was also blessed with six beautiful grandchildren who loved him very much. Bob is also survived by his brother Denny and his wife Eileen and his sister Karen and numerous nieces and nephews and lots of great friends.

Bob was the kind of person that most people wish they could be. He was a gentle soul, a kind husband, a caring Brother, a supportive Grandfather, a doting Uncle, and a good friend. He always stood out in a crowd physically with his height, but always attracted those around him with his warm smile. His caring disposition, his value of family and love of friendships lasted a life time. He will always be in our hearts, and will never be forgotten, but he will truly be missed.

Bob's remains will be kept at the Riverside Memorial Cemetery. A service will be planned in Orange County, CA, where he lived for over forty years, in the near future to celebrate his life and to honor him.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rose Mortuary, Desert Hot Springs.

Diane and Family,
We are saddened to have heard of Bob's passing--; But I count myself very blessed to have had this wonderful man in my life since I was 4 years old--that's 45 years!! The memories I cherish are countless--dinners with he and Donna and my family, countless weekends up at the cabin Idyllwild in the winter and summer, a few wonderful 4th of July celebrations at their home in Dana Point...the list goes on. I remember when he and Donna purchased their first grandfather clock--the very one I am proud to say I have in my own home, having been handed to me by my father, Dennis, who had purchased it from Bob when he decided it was time to move up in clocks. I look at this clock everyday and am reminded of our wonderful and dear friend Bob.
We were so happy for the both of you to find renewed love in one-another and witnessed your union at my Dad's home in San Juan. Diane, Bob was lucky to have you as his love in the latter years of his life.
We hope that you find great comfort in the memories you created together; May God Bless you and grant you peace during this sad time.

Our Deepest Condolences,
The Galuppo Family -- Rock, Sheri (Paquin), Marius, Dominic, Vincent

I worked with Bob when I first started working in the San Clemente office in 1988. I remember him quite well because he was very kind and welcoming when I started here. I will always remember him and wish his family all my best during this difficult time. He was a great man, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet him while he was at our office. He made it a better place for all of us!

Bob and Diane were the first people we met at Paradise Springs. Both loving and kind souls they offered a voice of calm reassurance in the chaos that unfolded in our community. Bob will be remembered as a tall, kind and very good looking guy with a heart of gold. He will be missed.

Oh Bob ... now you and George are once again enjoying 'good times'. I will always remember your poker games at the Idyllwild cabin and the hilarious two-sided painting on the wall. :-) You will be greatly missed by so many but I am thankful you are no longer burdened by earthly illness. Bless all of you. Love, Gayla
