Elaine J. Miller, 77, died on Feb. 18, 2014, of lung cancer at her home in Rancho Mirage with Robert, her husband of more than 55 years, by her side. Elaine had been ill for several years suffering pain from two failed back surgeries and was under Hospice care for both conditions. She was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Fosston, Minn., the second child of Gerhard and Bertha Berglund. Her parents and sister, Gloria Fruhwirth, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, whom she married in Fosston on Aug. 23, 1958. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. Elaine was a registered nurse having graduated from Deaconess Hospital aligned with the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. She practiced her profession wherever she lived during her life. Elaine and Robert left Olympia, Wash., to settle in the Coachella Valley in 1988. Both became active in churches, including Hope Lutheran and SW Community Church. When, she became ill, they attended St. Johns Lutheran. Both she and her husband were also active in construction and real estate in the La Quinta Palms community on Fred Waring Drive. Elaine was her husband's assistant in his real estate work after he joined Continental Properties, and they were lifetime partners in all that they did. She traveled with her husband throughout the world and lived in 15 different cities in the United States. A dedicated Christian from early childhood, Elaine was always willing to help others in any way possible. She will always be remembered for her love of life, intelligence and kindness to all.
