I met Joe in the early 90s when I worked as a media buyer in a small advertising agency representing Applied Biosystems and later Perkin-Elmer. He sold advertising for BioTechniques and other life sciences publications. Joe was always friendly and helpful, and even called me a few times after I moved on to work with non-biotech companies. Heartfelt condolences. Joe will always be remembered for his positive and warm personality. He was a great colleague, a sincere friend and mentor to many.
His iconic sign off "Cheers" will always be associated with him. I will miss him.

My sincere condolences to the Shea Family. I consider myself lucky to have had the pleasure of working with Joe at BioTechniques. He was a mentor and a friend. Joe always gave excellent advice with sincerity and the classic "Joe Shea" sense of humor. May he rest in peace, God Bless.

I really can not remember when I met Joe because he has always been a good friend of my family. We met him and his family when they lived in Upland, California, he was a neighbor. We kept in touch with him no matter where he was living. We spend several summer vacations with him and his family when they lived in Laguna Beach, California.
